Talmadge Jones

Obituary of Talmadge Jones

Mr. Talmadge Jones was born July 18, 1929 to William Edward and Madeline (Hill) Jones in Wilmington, North Carolina.  He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1949 from Williston Industrial High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from Monterey Peninsula College.  He served in the U.S. Army for over 23 years with tours of duty in Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Germany and stateside bases including Ft. Jackson, SC, Ft. Lewis, WA, and Ft. Ord, CA.  After retiring, he worked as a Civil Servant at Silas B. Hayes Hospital, Monterey County Jail, Firestone, and the Monte Vista Market.  He was affectionately known as Jones, Tammy, Doc, Mr. J, and LJ.  He loved talking and telling stories, traveling back “home” to North Carolina, watching TV Westerns, Judge Shows, and The Three Stooges.  His favorite pastime was cooking and famously said he was so good that he could BBQ water.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  daughters, Gloria Jones, Sylvia (Roosevelt) Keys, and Cynthia Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends from coast to coast including the Class of 1949 members, Marie Stitt, Mabel Justice, Marguerite Brown, Nannie Mapson, Lydia Braye, Merie Sanders, Clara DeVaughn, George Wilson, and Johnnie Herrington; special friends, Deacon Otha Morgan, Mitch Kastros, Jerry Robinson, Lou Augusta, Charles Burwell, Tracy (Smitty) Smith, George Merchant, Rev. Jimmy Welch, Rev. Jessie Boone and his church family at New Hope.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Lutitia Jones, parents William Edward (Buck) and Madeline (Hill) Jones, brothers, Percy and Dalton Jones, sisters, Thelma Anderson, Bertha Lee Jones Dundy Davenport and Wilhemina Little.  A wonderful host of Army buddies including Sgt. John Neal, Charles (Jack) Jackson, Calvin (Dave) Davis and William Gainey and the members of the Class of 1949 from Williston Industrial High School.
