Obituary of Effie May Picaso

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Effie May Picaso passed away April 29th at age 82 after being involved in a tragic auto accident. She was a truly remarkable woman, who expressed her opinion without hesitation or apology. She was genuine 100% of the time and had a zest for life. You always knew how she felt, however, she was never judgmental and always accepting of your choices whether they worked out or not. She loved good food and was a great cook. She especially loved spending time with friends and family. She always had time for each of them and succeeded in developing a special and unique relationship with each one. She loved movies, reading (mysteries), and was a fierce “words with friends” player. She gave no quarter. Effie also loved her cat, Quinn. She had a passion for traveling in the last few years and fulfilled her lifelong desire to visit England, Spain and Hawaii. Effie was born in New Mexico on May 20, 1939 to parents Alma and Jess Hines. Her family, subsequently moved to the Salinas Valley, settling in the Mission area of Soledad, Ca. She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1957 and shortly thereafter met the love of her life Richard Picaso in San Diego while he was in the Navy. They soon married and had three lovely daughters, Deborah, Kim and Kellie. They moved back to the Salinas Valley in in 1969. Effie retired from the Social Security Administration where she made many life-long friends. Richard pre-deceased her in 2013 as did great granddaughter Riley Michelle Hackett in 2007. Effie is survived by her sister Elizabeth Abucay {John} Whidden, great aunt Alyce Watson, daughters Deborah (William) Alcaraz, Kim Picaso, and Kellie (Robert) Picaso- Conine. Grand-Children Athena Cadena, Demitra (Michael) McCabe, Troy Townsend, Antonio Sanchez, Brittany Lopez, Gabriel Lopez, Jacquelyn Aguilar, Cody (Emily) Conine, and Sunnie (CJ) Ulrich.
