Obituary of Michael Anthony Manzanal

Michael Anthony Manzanal of Marina, CA, born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 30, 1962 passed away on December 25, 2020. 

 

Michael graduated from Seaside High School in Seaside, CA in 1980 and also graduated from De Vry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, AZ having received an Associate’s Degree as an Electronic Technician. 

 

Soon after Michael enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably as an EW2 specializing in electronic warfare. Michael was an original crew member in warships USS Rodney Davis and USS Rushmore and served as part of the decommissioning crew for the USS Richard E. Byrd. During his military career he received the following military achievements: Battle Efficiency Award, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal (Persian Gulf War), Sea Service Deployment Award and a Letter of Commendation (Destroyer Squadron Fourteen). 

 

As a follower of his faith, Michael was a longtime parishioner at St Jude’s Parish in Marina, CA. He enjoyed traveling, photography, playing slot machines at casinos, watching sports events, science fiction shows and movies, and also contributing to many various domestic, international and Catholic charitable foundations. 

 

Michael is survived by his mother Josefina Manzanal, sister Susan Stelter and niece Michaela Villaluz.

 

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 9:00 AM with the funeral mass starting at 11:00 AM at St Jude’s Parish in Marina. The burial will then follow at the Mission Memorial Park in Seaside.
