Obituary of Katy Nell Bonnard

Katy Nell Bonnard was born August 9, 1945, to the parents of the late Mr. & Mrs. Walter and Ernestine Bonnard. Katy was the fifth child of ten children. Katy was the daughter of hard working parents, raised in a Godly home and going to church was a must. Katy attended Turners Industrial Grade School through Junior High in Grandfield, Oklahoma and Boyd High School in Fredrick, Oklahoma. During Katy's senior year, a time in history when demonstrating for "the cause" was dangerous, Katy formed the first "Black Sit-In" at the counter of the local drug store designated for whites only. As a Certified Foster Parent, Katy worked in the field for 15 years. Her experiences and devotion was expressed as she cared for her great niece, Rosie. In 1957 she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal savior and became a member of Neal Memorial COGIC under the leadership of the late Elder Clarence Church. Katy received the Holy Ghost at the age of 12. After graduating from High School the family moved to Seaside, California and joined Victory Temple Church COGIC, under the leadership of the late Bishop S.R. Martin. Leaving Oklahoma for California was a dream come true. Katy immediately joined the Trumpeteers, becoming one of the original members. In 1964, Katy married the late Phillip Davis and to this union, the love of her life, Trina and Kisha Davis were born. In 2000, Katy moved to Hayward, California and became an active member of Glad Tidings COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop J. Macklin. Katy Enjoyed baking pies. She loved duplicating Mother Bonnard's chocolate butter scotch, lemon, pecan, and sweet potato pies. On October 16, 2013, Sister Katy Davis left a great legacy to cherish her home going. Preceding her in death are her parents Walter and Ernestine Bonnard, her sisters Billie Lorraine Bell, Miss'y Joan Welch, LaVerne Bonnard, Rita Gentry and Marilyn Harris and one grandson Donald McCall Jr. Katy is survived by her daughters, Trina Davis (Paul) and Kisha Davis (Leroy), Linda Hickson, Vernia Bonnard, and Evelyn Bonnard, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, God brother Henry L. McGowan (Crucify) and God sister Regina Brown and her church family and friends.
