I first met Harley some 40 years ago when we were neighbors in Carmel/ Marge and he were so welcoming when we arrived, and two daughters were utterly charming. As we grew to know Harley better, we learned of his indefatigable charm wit,his beautiful singing voice and wonderful guitar refrains. We were awed by the strenth of his hands and the way they could take all the stress out of one's body - and put you to sleep, at the same time.
As we were an Army family we soon had to move on, but returned 8 years later. Having stayed in touch in the intervening years, we immediately renewed our friendship. Once more, after another year at DLI, we returned to Germany. And three years later here we were again, this time to stay. Our friendship remained strong and we shared Harley's sorrow at the loss of his eldest, Danny and then the sudden passing of Marge. But Harley somehow was able to maintain a positive (at least outwardly)attitude and endured. Although his stroke had somewhat limited his physical abilitie4s, it did not dull his wit and joy of living. HIs will be terrible missed by all who knew him. It is with great sorrow that I write this. I wish his family best wishes and know that Harley has returned to his maker and is once more with his beloved Marge...Harley, - May the road rise up to meet you,may the wind be always at your back and may the road rise to meet you. May the sun shine warmly upon your face, may the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.

I just want to thank God for the opportunity to be able to of met this angel of a man thru his granddaughter Rhonda many years ago. He was one of the kindest hearted gentlemen I have ever met,and boy did he have some strong hands when it came to massages. lol He was amazing in the fact that he could rub your feet and tell you of any of the ailments that you were having or going to be having just thru the nerve endings in your feet. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this time sadness. God Bless you all.

I definitely have an empty space in my heart, with the passing of my favorite Uncle Bump. He gave me away at my wedding, since my Father passed away 10 years earlier, and I loved him very much. He also sang and played guitar at my wedding and my sister, Mary's wedding. We all loved his genuine sense of humor and easy going personality. He always had a smile, no matter what. He was just a wonderful human being, who was always there for everyone. I have the videotape of him singing and playing guitar at my wedding, and will cherish it always. Rest in peace, Uncle Bump. We will never forget you!!! Love, Jill & family

I am married to granddaughter Jenifer's father JIm. Harley and Marge showed me with warmth and acceptance from when we first met. They treated me as part of their family, even including me in the Happy Birthday phone call when they would sing in sweet harmony. I will always fondly remember and miss this curious, engaging, and kind man. My condolences to all of Harley's family.

Dear Ashlie,
Although I did not have the honor or privilege
to know your great-grandfather, just from the
pictures you have posted, he seemed like
a very delightful soul!
I know you must miss him tremendously
already! Grandparents are very special
people! Those of us that were and are lucky
enough to really get to know our grandparents,
will ALWAYS be blessed to have known
SUCH SPECIAL SOULS sent to be with us
or be blessed our entire lives to be or have
been a part of their lives!
I know I truly miss all of my grandparents!
I also know that they ALL were TRULY ANGELS
SENT FROM HEAVEN ABOVE!, just to be apart
of my life! Just as your beloved great-grandfather
was put In your life!
