When ever we saw Alan it was a happy time. Alan made a lovely photograph of my daughter Jean that is dear to me. He was a fine man and a friend of nature that we regret loosing and will sadly miss.

We've been truly lucky to be Alan's neighbors for the past 26 years. Every day, even through his battle with cancer, Alan always had a brave face and a beautiful smile that will be missed. We're so thankful and lucky to have him, Esther, and Cory next door to us, and are beyond appreciative of Alan's generosity in helping with our house project to get rid of the pesky birds near our house roof!! Even when he should've been resting!! We admire his courage throughout this last year and his integrity to live and enjoy life every day. It's a notion our family now also lives by and will always tribute to Alan. We will miss our neighbor greatly.
Rest in peace, Alan, and our deepest sympathies to Esther, Cory & the Miyamoto family.

I am proud to say that I've known Alan since the early 1970's, through college years, professional careers, family milestones,He was truly a fun loving, caring individual, kind and thoughtful. Over the years, I would bump into him here and there, he always greeted me with that BIG smile of his. We would catch up and share our latest news. One in particular, I remember the joy in his heart while telling me that he and his wife Esther celebrated the birth of their son, Cory. That was a proud moment for him. I'm very sad to have learned of his illness, but I know that his spirit will live on in the lives of those he touched. Please accept my prayers and condolences to the extended Miyamoto family. It was a privilege to know him.~ Sometime in the future, on a clear night when the stars are twinkling brightly in the sky, we can all look up and feel Alan's presence smiling down on us. Rest in peace my friend.

It was a privilege to know Alan. Our daughter and Cory were good friends in school. They were in band together and so we got to know Alan and Ester during those times. Alan's easy going nature and sense of humor were always an inspiration. His courage and positive attitude during his last months showed the true greatness of Alan.
We will miss him.

"I knew Al through the Boy Scouts of America. He was always willing to volunteer and go that extra mile! It is an honor to say that I was able to earn along side with Al the "Award of Merit" in scouting. Al's son Cory, and my son Cody were in Boy Scout Troop 44 together. We shared many fun outings! One outing, Al showed my husband and my younger son Tyler, who is now serving our country, a few fly fishing tricks! No matter where you were, there was always that glorious smile!!!
I'm so saddened for his loss, never knowing of his illness. My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Miyamoto family.
Al, you will be missed Scouting Brother, but never forgotten! You are smiling down upon us and you are catching those big trout as we speak!
I hope someday, somehow, a park or a trail can be named in your honor!!!

I met Alan years ago when we both used to spend a lot of time around the Ringer household. He was very involved with Boy Scouts at that time and Mr. Ringer may have been one of his scout leaders. We attended school together all through junior high and high school. Many fond memories of those early years.
Years passed and lives changed. Spouses, children, multiple events, and Fly Fishing. Who should show up at my door one day but Alan! I didn't even know that he and my husband were friends. And friends they were. There were many fishing stories around our table that Alan and Cory were a part of.
Thank you Alan for all the joy that you brought into our lives.
Our sincerest sympathies to Esther and Cory and the Miyamoto family.

"I met Alan through another family member and though we didn't run in the same group of friends he was always quick with a smile, hello and how are you. I also had some interactions with him when I worked for the Monterey Park and Recreation Department and with the High School band as my brothers and sister were in the band. I just recently started connecting with people from Walter Colton and Monterey High School and in the few times we did communicate Alan never let on he was ill. I am deeply sadden that he has passed on but the memories he left and the friendships he had will live on forever. Thank you Alan for welcoming me to the Monterey High School Face Book page and for remembering me"

I met Alan my Freshman year at Monterey High School. We were in the band together and became good friends. He was always smiling and had a love of life that was infectious. I have many fond memories of our times together during high school. He had an interest in photography, which made him a friend of my parents as well as myself. I last saw him at my Dad's memorial in January 2012. He was the same happy Alan enjoying his retirement. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a good friend and I will always treasure the memories of our time together. My deepest sympathies to the Miyamoto family and his wife Esther and son Cory. He will be missed.

I knew Alan through the Explorer Post that we were both in -- one that was dedicated to prospecting, rockhounding, and the lapidary arts (and sponsored by the Carmel Valley Gem & Mineral Society). So sad to hear of this passing, and though I have not lived in Monterey since 1976, I had heard of his great work with Parks and Recreation.
It is my hope that a park is named in Alan's memory.

I met Alan in 7th grade at Fremont Jr. High. We were good friends all through High school. He treated everyone like you were his best friend. The picture on this site is the way he will always be remembered. He always smiled, joked around and really knew how to enjoy life. We always exchanged fishing stories. He was so inspirational in his knowledge and fly fishing techniques. We will fish together, my friend. When I catch my first giant in April, I'm going to yell "This ones for you, Alan! My dad grew up with the Miyamoto's. He always mentioned Oyster and Ky back in the 30's and 40's. Kindness runs in the family. Deepest sympathies to the Miyamoto family. He will be missed by so many classmates, Giants fans, and fishermen. Gone, but never forgotten.

I met Alan in elementary school and he kept me laughing through high school. His smile always prompted my smile in return! It's been 30 years since I last saw that smile...a surprise meeting at Laguna Seca with students on a field trip...and my cheeks hurt even now from smiling at the memory.
You will be missed and remembered by many my friend. A very fine list of accomplishments and enjoying life with family and friends has been written down. And thank you from a long ago friend for all those smiles!
My sincere sympathy to the extended Miyamoto family for your loss.

I was fortunate to spend my childhood alongside Alan in Pack 128. His laughter was contagious. And his life long dedication to the Boy Scout Pledge was honorable. I was so happy to see him when he attended my fathers memorial. He will be missed by many, and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family.

I attended Fremont Jr High & Monterey High School with Alan and he always was one of the most genuinely kind & nicest guys I have ever met! Don't think I've ever seen him with a scowl on his face. He created our MHS Class of 1971 alumni face book page so we all could stay connected and we all were so blest to have had him in our lives & to call him friend. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife, son & family.
